Rent is flat
Cold storage charges ~৳300 per 84 kg sack for the season — one month or nine, the rent is the same. Farmers pay full price even when they sell early.
Farmers sell too early
Afraid prices will fall, many sell within 1–3 months. They paid full rent, but the price hasn't risen yet — the cold storage gains, the farmer loses.
Big crops hit hardest
When Bangladesh grows more potato than usual (2016-17, 2024-25), prices stay low all year. In a normal crop year, prices can nearly double by November.
Traders hold the edge
Traders buy in bulk at the haat, store across the country, and sell when prices rise. They have cash and information — farmers usually store only seed potato.

Cash needs force early sales. With the sacks in cold storage as security, a bank can lend instead. KrishiVault does not lend: the cold storage issues a digital receipt (weighed and graded, sent to the farmer by SMS), KrishiVault values the crop carefully (after the season's 8.65% weight loss), works out the repayment risk and sends the application. The bank decides. Once it approves, the sacks leave the cold storage only with the bank's agreement, and the sale pays the cold storage, then the bank, then the farmer. All banks here are DEMO.

Neighbours combine their sacks into one order. Sharing a truck saves money straight away. A cold storage may offer a lower rent for a big order; that saving counts only after the cold storage agrees on its screen, never before.
